Wanted: mouse-free Eclipse
July 31st, 2003
Kasia triggers me to complain about Eclipse's greatest shortcoming: why can't I switch editors without touching my mouse? Is it that hard to implement CTRL-TAB? I code, hence I type. When I'm using Gimp, I want to point and click, since I have the mouse in my hand. When I'm typing, I want to do everything with the keyboard, since my hands are there.
New product idea: a keyboard that is also a mouse. Keep your hands on the keyboard, and just drag it around. Mouse buttons should be right below the spacebar. Alternative: add 102 keys to the mouse. But I guess that results in the same...
Update: I knew I should've googled before writing this. Still love the idea of the keyboard though.

April 21st, 2008 at 10:17 PM You can do it Goto Window-->Preferences-->Workbench-->Keys Select "Window" in the "category" drop down. Select "next editor" in the "Name" dropdown. Click on the selection in the "Assignment" window. The "Key sequence" box will fill up. Click on the "Remove" button. Go back to the "Key Sequence" area and delete the setting in the "Name" textbox. Press "CTRL+TAB". Press the "Add" button. It would appear in the "Assignments" area. Repeat the same for "Previous Editor" in the "Name" window of the "Command" section Hope this helps
April 21st, 2008 at 10:17 PM Just to add to Bernard Choi's comment. If you are using WSAD or an older version of Eclipse I've noticed that it only provides a drop down of available key combos (no fancy key press detection). CTRL+TAB is not present for some odd reason. But you can actually type in "Ctrl+tab" in the 'key sequence' drop down. Then click 'Add'
